Koh Tao Divers the first diving school: 1987
When you get the idea of diving in Thailand, the first reference is the island of Koh Tao. A worldwide reputation that this region of southern Thailand has earned for its underwater fauna and flora.
Researching among the more than 50 schools in the few 21 km² of the beautiful island, you wonder which diving school I choose? Which parameters are important when choosing a school that suits my needs?
There is a saying that “between tastes and colors the authors have not written”
That’s why today I want to tell you about my experience because if you think like me, you will understand why I chose Koh Tao Divers.
Their headquarters are in front of the sea:
Koh Tao is a spectacular island but it has grown so much in terms of schools that there are many in the middle of the island and it loses a lot of the essence of dressing up as a diver, taking a few steps and going into the sea. In Koh Tao Divers this is a reality because it is right in front of the sea and for me it is a very special plus.
The first school founded (1987):
The experience in a diving school is very important because even though it is a recreational activity that requires little physical effort, if it is true that you need a good instructor to guide and support you in case of any problem In addition, the air in your tank must have the right amount of: 21% oxygen, 79% nitrogen so that you feel good underwater.
American, Russian, Finnish, Thai and Spanish instructors:
It’s important to understand the guide’s instructions, both in and out of the water. For that reason if you only speak your language and don’t understand another one, it will be very important that you look for a school with an instructor in your language.
On Line Theory:
Normally the first course to be a certified diver lasts 3 days approximately, so if you learn the theory on line (before your trip) you will have advanced time, so you can use it enjoying more of the island. There are schools – like Koh Tao Divers – that give you the option to do the theory on line, in advance.
SSI School:
When looking for course options, you will find the two strongest schools: SSI and PADI. Both are quite similar in terms of student demand and time. However, SSI currently has an app avail
able on the Android and Apple Store and it’s actually great because you can record your dives, the depth, assign which buddies you did it with and your instructor. It’s really great because there you’ll always have the theory with videos and you can review everything, at any time.
Koh Tao is an island that constantly moves a large mass of tourists, for its beauty outside and inside the sea. Besides finding diving schools, you will see many massage centers at excellent prices and lots of typical food in various styles of restaurants.
The center of the island is small but full of souvenir shops, ferry ticket shops to other islands and nightclubs. It is an ideal island for those who want to enjoy a little more peace and quiet (unlike Phi Phi Islands or Koh Phangan) although the options for partying and enjoyment will always be in sight.

2 Why did you decide to create a diving school on Koh Tao, if there was none before?
Koh Tao Divers was founded in 1987. Later it was Mikko Paasi who bought it in 2002 and since then he has been running Koh Tao Divers.
3 What is the best season for diving at Koh Tao?

Definitely the 33 years of experience in what differs from the other schools on the island.
